OVERVIEW
Gujarat Pollution Control Board, also known as GPCB, was constituted by Government of Gujarat on 15th October 1974,under the Water Act, 1974. GPCB’s main job is to contribute to the prevention and control of environmental pollution with improved management tools. The Board is dealing with several environment-related issues through its existing Regional Offices located at Ahmedabad city, Vatva, Sanand, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Anand, Bharuch, Surat, Vapi, Sarigam, Navsari, Jetpur, Ankleshwar, Surendranagar, Sabarkantha, Palanpur, Morbi, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Godhra, Mehsana, Bhavnagar, Kutch -west, Kutch-east &, Nadiad, Porbandar and Junagadh.
Environmental must perform well to meet challenges of environmental pollution under the ‘Swarnim Gujarat’ programs of Government of Gujarat. Though basic functions of the Board are regulatory, it also organizes various awareness programs, from time to time on local issues such as municipal solid wastes, bio-medical wastes, plastic issues besides water, air and land pollution generated from various industrial clusters. The Board makes constant efforts to control pollution and ensure sustainable development.

ENVIRONMENT CLEARANCE(EC)
EC is required ONLY IF a project or activities industry falls under Category A or B in the Schedule of Environment Impact Assessment Notification (Annexure 3). 3 Be noted that there are types of manufacturers that fall under none of these categories and are not required to take EC. For example:
